(2010/03/31) Lisa Reeves and Bernard Luscans - French
Meet Lisa Reeves and Bernard Luscans
Today we'd like you to meet Lisa Reeves and re-meet Bernard Luscans, who first taught French with us in about the year 2000. As far as we know, this is the only wedding we can take credit for.
Lisa: "Growing up in Canada meant we had to take French in elementary school. Back in 2007 I decided that it would be nice to pick up French again, so I took a class at CHICLE. I never expected that I would fall in love with and marry my teacher, Bernard! We were married in a quiet ceremony with friends at home in front of the fireplace in February of 2009. Bernard and I live out in the countryside of Chapel Hill with our many rescued cats. I work at UNC as a statistician/project manager in research."
Bernard: "I have lived in the US since 1998. I came here with my French spirit, and CHICLE was the place where this spirit is vibrating the most. When I started to teach at CHICLE (that was a long time ago), I met so many fascinating students: people in love for French culture, people devoted to the community, people with incredible life (I will never forget this old lady survivor from the Holocaust), people as great artist.... Every year, every new class was a revelation.
My wife was probably the one who really caught me by surprise. You cannot plan love, love catches you!
I studied French Literature in Paris-La Sorbonne, and got my Doctorate at UNC-CH. I currently am an Assistant Professor at Saint Augustine College in Raleigh."
